Shieldbugs of Guernsey

Shieldbugs are Pentatomidae which is a family of insects belonging to the order Hemiptera. I will also include Squashbugs on this page, which are Coreidae, also in the order Hemiptera and quite similar to the Shieldbugs, often being grouped together in field guides.

Guernsey is an ideal location for Shieldbugs with a wide variety of habitats all in a small area. We also act as a migration stop off point where many insects from Southern europe and the continent seem to find themselves, especially after any prolonged periods of East, South East or Southerly winds.

We currently have around xx species recorded on this island.

Many shieldbugs are specialist to a host plant

Here are a few images, scroll down for images of all of the shieldbugs I have managed to photograph.
